The physical case surrounding a smart meter is the first line of defense against tampering. Smart meter designs must incorporate some way to detect when the meter case is opened in order to alert service providers to a possible tamper attack. This reference design implements a new method for the low-power detection of such tampering by using a small, inductive sensor to accurately and reliably determine if the meter case has been opened. This new solution improves system reliability by eliminating mechanical components which can wear out over time. This system is implemented for smart electricity meters but the design techniques can as well be applied to water ,gas, and heat meters.

Особенности

Contactless detection of case tampering events Accurately detects case movement as small as 4mm Single inductive sensor detects opening of terminal block cover and main cover Consumes approximately 2 µA while sampling at 1Hz Immune to DC magnetic tampering
